Monsters & MisfitsMonsters and misfits are pervasive in our culture because they represent both individual and societal fears and anxieties. The central questions we will consider include: What is a monster and/or misfit and why do we create them in literature and film? What do they address that we face in our culture and society and why do they create horror in humanity? How does the uncanny come into play when examining society’s fears? What influences from mythology, folklore and classical horror texts are still in our society with our own versions of monsters and misfits? What differences are there in our interpretations of monsters and misfits and what do those changes signify? Archives
